How do I know that blue is blue? Shocked
You say that the sky is blue so I name the color I see in the sky blue...
But how to make sure that it is the same blue we both see?

well, opposite of blue is yellow, if you're talking color wheels - I used to be a photo processor, dontcha know - but that only applies when it's something that is reflecting light, like, ya know, matter. then, yes, the color we see is because only the opposing color(s) actually get to bounce up to our eyeballs cuz they were not absorbed by the, whatever it us. however, when you're talking about light itself, well light actually is the color you see it as - equivalent to a certain energy (reds being on the low end, infra red, below our visual range, is heat. not quite energetic enough to radiate. I think our eyes would have to be something like 3x the size they are now to see infra red & not be swamped by our own body heat - which is why the cold-blooded can 'see' in infra red, as they don't have the body heat problem. ultra violet, past blue & violet & also out of our visual range, is too energetic for our eyeballs to get a lock on it, but plenty of other critters can see it)

For example:

say you're a manufacturer and you want to make your widgets in two "colors", black and white. you'd add all pigments available for the black ones, so that they absorb all light & reflect very little back, so that the surface appears dark. for the white one, you would not add any pigments (provided you started with something colorless to begin with, inherent colors would have to be bleached out somehow) so that your widget would reflect all light for a white surface.

alternately, when you're talking actual light, white means the presence of all colors (play with a prism if you want to see the constituent parts broken out) and black is the absence of all colors, not to mention light, haha.

does that make any sense, or am I still talkin' crazy as usual?

actually, most of this arda learning moment brought to you by Pan via Bob - except for the color wheel bits, I knew that already from photo trainin' - he's the smart one in the family! let's hope this loose nut behind the keyboard got most of her facts straight, as she hasn't had coffee yet lol

no shit, eh? methinks Illuminus majored in something heavy-duty just like The Mister did. not to mention prolly has 'hobbies' that would be considered academic by the teeming masses to say the least lol Wink

of course, all Crackheads are near & dear to my heart, and all have their own unique & endearing talents, but I would think mouseketeers like myself would start to bug after awhile lol, since it's definitely my default state o mind!

EMM....EEYE...SEE...,

KAY...EEE...WHY....

Well...

Some Murphy's laws to 'inspire'....

The first 90% of a project takes 90% of the time, the last 10% takes the other 90% of the time.

If you can't get your work done in the first 24 hours, work nights.

People don't make the same mistake twice, they make it three, four, or five times.

When you don't know what to do, walk fast and look worried.

Progress is only made on alternate Tuesdays.

Umm.. uhhh .. happy day at work all...

Hey! I do this, saves actually bothering to do some work sometimes - also if someone asks you a question that is far beyond moronic, blink at them and twitch until they realise you're about to eat their face. Or something. Merry Friday!

Um, I probably shouldn't encourage you, but...'Or something'?
Is this where that 'papercuts to the eyelids' bit we've previously discussed might come in handy? Cuz sometimes I'm just not hungry enough to eat a whole face Confused
