Anyone following this? I read that NewLine has something like a year or 2 to make a Hobbit movie before the rights switch to MGM (i think?).
Anyway good news: MGM wants Peter Jackson to direct
bad news: New Line refuses to work with Jackson ever again and wants to get this movie made so they can make mad $$$.

My opinion: they are all idiots they need Jackson AND Sir Ian or they are fooked....and if they want bonus respect points they should include Agent Smith! (Hugo Weaving).

Discuss! hehe

Sorry Sal but i cannot agree... Good news for me is they don't want Jackson to direct this movie... This man was close to kill 2 Towers and Return of the King Evil or Very Mad I wanted to murder him Evil or Very Mad There was only 1 good thing - GOLLUM... And i still try to forget rest (elves in Helm's Deep, Denethor in Minas Tirith, acrobatic Legolas etc.)... From 3 films only 1st part was good... Even without Bombadil and with Arwen as fighter/ranger...
I can only agree that Sir Ian and Agent Smith should stay as Gandalf and Elrond...

Lol, but to be completely fair, if the movies weren't "hollywoodized" or killed as it was so blatantly put, the movies would be dry. Which is pretty funny because I thought the first movie was the most boring out of all of em. Certain liberties have to be taken anytime a translation from book to screen take place, and no Im not counting the 70s cartoon as a viable screen port.

No matter what happens and who directs, I probably will see the movie anyway.

well without getting into a debate about the movies vs the book and all....i'll settle for 2 out of 3. Sir Ian and Agent Smith it is then! lol, good to hear from ya as well.

While I know nothing about the aforementioned wobbit movie (you'd think they would have at least consulted with Pandemonium, can't do better than a wobbit barb for vertically-challenged opinion FFS)

I have a completely off-topic question for Vulok...Erm, why the Aenima avatar? Big Tool fan? Agree with the sentiment of the song? Or what? The Mister is right with you, but I have to go with Eulogy from that album myself. Not to mention, if L.A. goes, Bob & I are in San Diego and would prolly be taken out too *glug* lol and while I don't even remember a time when I couldn't swim...I bet it's hard to game, compute, etc., when submerged

BTW, nice to see ya back, V! Both of you! =)

Definitely a tool fan. And yeah, Maynard's got a few good points, but not saying I think quite as drastically as him. I actually prefer (musically) stinkfist the most. I guess there's some redemption in the lyrics, if you can get past the obvious parts of them.

Back on topic, Hugo Weaving should be in every movie ever made, but maybe thats just me.

well...If you do it then all the cast that would cross over to the LOTR films would have to be back, meaning Elrond would have to be Elrond.

You have to cut things from books to make them films...tis the only way sadly. You have to consider the fans as well as the market you wish to sell the film to.

The only thing that really annoyed me (and it annoyed me in a very big way) was Faramir being turned into weak willed fool over the ring. Arwen instead of Glorfindel was a minor annoyance really

The most annoying things in films for me was:
1. Gimli... Dunno why they do it to dwarves...
2. Denethor in Minas Tirith... He should cry "Geronimo" jumping... And was turned into barbarian... All my friends were almost sure he'll kill few orcs falling...
3. Cavalry charge to the Osgiliath ruins... Noone will ever do something so stupid... Even Denethor never would command something like that... Hmm... Gondor has almost no cavalry as far as i know...
4. Acrobatics by Legolas... Sorry - i have no words to comment that...
5. Elves in Helm's deep... LOL
6. Sauron's Eye... Kind of searchlight???
7. Cavalry charge in Helm's Deep... I dunno and don't believe there r horses able to charge this way (more than 45 degrees angle?)
8. Faramir... He, Boromir and Denethor were pure blood Dunedain... Princes of Men... And in film? Only Boromir was close to mine vision...
9. Elijah Woods as Frodo... Sorry... What was that? Hobbit? I don't want to offend anyone but from who's dreams he was taken?
And many more... I agree that there is no chance to transfer everything from books to film but it was really to much for me... And i see difference between cutting and changing... I see there was someone's evil will in it Smile
We can discuss it Smile

Aw i liked the eye, showed you where his evil will was focused at any given moment, frantic looking for the ring and keeping his forces moving.

Wasn't there a calvary charge at helm's deep? or has it been so long since i read the book?

Faramir, Boromir and Denethor were Dunedain? I thought only Aragorn and the rangers were Dunedain? Again..its been a while....anyway, yeah I agree with the rest i think. Still great movies though.

There were no cavalry in Helm's Deep... There were Huorns and Erkenbrand's men gathered by Gandalf i tihnk... Later Theoden called all Rohan men to Meduseld and gathered about 6k cavalry as far as i remember... And yes - Boromir, Faramir and Denethor r called as pure Dunedain blood...

My soul aches at your lack of knowledge Sal.

I haven't ready any of the books in quite some time...I apologize for my ignorance. This is why Lan is the official Lore Master.
